Twist Salon
We were taught by television ads and our parents to shampoo our hair everyday. After fifteen years in the hair and beauty industry. I am here to tell you, please STOP.
Manufacturers give us directions on the back of their products to shampoo and repeat if necessary. You know why? Shampoo is very inexpensive to produce. In most product lines, shampoo is made up of primarily water and sodium laureth sulfate (salt), some ingredients for calming down the hair after it has been exploded by the salt, and fragrance.
You are removing the essential oils and proteins that your body produces. Which helps promote elasticity and melanin (color). As we age, we produces less of the essentials that your hair needs to stay heathly looking and shiny.
A few recommendations.
1. Wait 48 hours to shampoo your after a color or hi lightng service. You can rinse your hair and condition it, just do not shampoo it. You will lose some of the color you just paid for.
2. Use quality products. Most of the salon products today are all great. Some have gotten smart. They are not using sodium anymore, instead they are using natural cleansers.
3. Do not color your own hair. The store bought colors have very high amounts of ammonia in them.
4. When styling, use great products. Ecspecially if you are using hot tools a lot (flat irons, etc.
If you are someone that has been brain washed to shampoo everyday, this will be a big change for you. But it will work, I promise. One hint, put the shampoo outside the shower so that you have to think about it ,before you just use it.
